Myst Entertainment was announced a long time ago. It’s been months, maybe even a year, and I almost lost hope that they will one day emerge. Then someone told me that, you know, Myst is planning a grand opening. My comment was that after so much waiting, it’s better to be good, even amazing. And … it was.
After we escaped Myst, I saw someone write on their wall the following: “Thank you for returning us the pleasure of playing escape rooms and giving us hope back.” And I was just wanted to say: “This is my line, I had to say it”.
Myst has everything, but really everything. It has a good location and a fantastic lobby; for God’s sake, Dimitar published a live feed from the toilet, I’m not even kidding …
… and this was before we even stepped foot in the room. The color-coded logo on their wall is E-P-I-C. In general, everything here is thought to be so spectacular, memorable, and impressive that you simply cannot ignore it. The site is exactly the same: modern, fast, and elegant.
In the beginning, we were welcomed by only one member of this brilliant team that created this masterpiece. Then, after the game, we met the rest of them. They are excited about what we have to say. Well … what about “BRAVO”! They insist on telling them what to improve, how to fix it, and if it is something stupid, illogical, or annoying. Me: “Put on a chair.” Yes, I came up with the most obscure tip on how to improve the perfect. I’m not sure I even wanted to try.
For overall presentation, vision, message, and brand, they get an A+, and I think they absolutely deserve to go straight to the top of Sofia and the country escape rooms ranking.
About the room … considering how little I can tell you, I will try to give you some information: spotless interior, no junk items to distract you. There are few skippable steps, but they know about that … as always, if we can skip, we skip. Everything appears at the right moment and brings the right information and mood. Their theme is MEGA strong. Everything about Kryptos is super interesting, even without the room itself, because a lot of conspiracy theories are floating around, but Myst has taken the strong parts of history and reinforced them even more with the interior of the room. Consistent, methodical, with many puzzles, many WOW effects, and moderate difficulty; given that we played at a hard difficulty level, there is nothing we don’t like.
I am impressed that they spent the time to think about the competition between the teams and came up with a system that tries to highlight the strengths of the teams. Their ranking is based on points, as they are formed not only by escape time but also by the number of participants in the team, the number of hints (we started calling them cheap and expensive hints because, based on their usefulness, they add penalty points, more or less) the difficulty level chosen by the team and so on. Even though we set a new record, I was sure that it would not stand a chance, and I was right because a few hours later, Karaivanovi just killed us all and set a new record, but they are great guys, and I was actually really happy for them. My admiration for the great idea and for a lot of courage to break the pattern in this genre!
If you haven’t already known it, this is one of our favorite rooms ever.
Now go book a game.
