And here I was, prepared for a belly button (meaning that they would try to scare us), but the room turned out to be playable, with decent puzzles and a few, but very few ‘scary’ elements. We find ourselves in the familiar lobby of Locked Up, where our faces from 5 years ago are still hanging. The game master greets us; they remind me a lot of Alla (my daughter). On the other hand, they seem just as uninterested as Alla in us – what are we, and why are we here? They recite the prelude, don’t climb, don’t force things, solve puzzles, and communicate. I am convinced that any random AI can do this.
The fact that they do it in brilliant English is a factor, but still, I would say if you’re not into what you’re doing, you better stop doing it. Alla, I hope you greet the teams with more enthusiasm!
The premises are dark, with an industrial taste, which is a nod to the movies. Some poor decorations break the immersion a bit, but overall, we enjoy this linear room, and most of the time, half of us sit on our hands because there’s nothing to solve. There’s a broken puzzle; they know it’s broken, there’s a way to solve it even if it is broken, and they’ve made the conscious decision that this is enough. Um… okay, no.
We escape in 54:50 minutes, which is enough time for the tiled stove in the lobby to heat up my sandwich. Alas, that’s the highlight of the experience. I still think the other rooms of the brand are the right choice before you play ‘Jigsaw.’ I’m not saying the room is bad, but it doesn’t shine with anything special. Not to mention that the puzzle with the colored syringes took us more time than I would like to admit (for which we are solely to blame and no one else 😅).
