Why am I crying?
It’s a long story…
When we planned the trip to the Netherlands, I invited Dimitar to join us. He said he couldn’t make it—and that was that.
On March 31st, it was my birthday. Not much was planned apart from escape rooms. In the morning, I received a birthday cake from Miro, Misho, and Veronika. It was a pleasant surprise. We had coffee and left the house to play The Dome.
Now, keep in mind—this game was not in our plans for the day. But after our first game, we had time, so about two hours before actually going, Veronika said, “We have time. I looked at this website, and it shows games available to book immediately. Look, will you find something we can play?”
I did. And to my surprise, I recognized the brand—Questomatica. We had played there a couple of years ago, and the game was great. So I booked Wake Up.
Then we go… We stopped the car on the street. I went to the lobby to ask the GM if we could park outside. She said yes, but we had to pay at the machine.
I went back outside, we spent five minutes figuring out the payment, and then we went in, passing the lobby.
And there he was. Dimitar.
Standing in front of me.
Wearing a stupid hat, holding a couple of cupcakes with burning sugar that was caramelizing. He’d heard I was entering the building for the first time and lit them just in time.
I cried like a baby.
This is what friends are for—to secretly plan and travel thousands of miles just to surprise you.
This MF reverse-engineered me. He knew I would pick this room because I recognized the brand.
He and Veronika planned it all—down to her suggesting a last-minute booking—and everything went exactly as they’d planned.
Dimitar stayed with us for the next two days, and we played a lot of rooms together. But in my book, this one will stay with me forever.
