We have a bad history with MMR. When we were here back in 2018, we played a room that was … well, bad.
Well, we’re usually the kind of people who believe in second chances — we trust in humanity, and we know everyone starts out young and enthusiastic. So we decided to give MMR another shot and booked Lord of the Rings and Avengers.
Probably the best way to summarize how I feel about those rooms is this: later in October, when I returned to Belgrade with a large group of enthusiasts, I booked all of MMR’s games. For every team. That should tell you something.
Let’s talk about Lord of the Rings. No surprises with the goal: find the ring, toss it into Mount Doom. Classic.
The theme is ambitious, and while it could easily fall short, maybe because we didn’t have huge expectations, we actually enjoyed the game. Mostly tactile puzzles, nothing illogical or broken. A few padlocks here, some puzzles with text there, a couple of skeletons and arrows later — and we were approaching the end.
What really stood out was the effort put into the final area. They clearly sacrificed usable game space just to give players an epic, cinematic ending — something made to be seen, not touched. I have no idea how it plays out for other teams, but we stopped, we looked around, we took in the moment, solved the last puzzle, and dropped the fuggin’ ring. Was it worth the sacrifice? Not for me to tell.
And of course, we had a blast with the post-game photos. Ivan looked like Lady Godiva, and the rest of us resembled Lord of the Rings characters straight from AliExpress. But hey — you have to look on the bright side of life. Always.
P.S. It is strange and usually not the case, but I somehow remember every single puzzle in this game. Weird.
